Mr. Shi specializes in Insurance & Reinsurance, Maritime & Admiralty, and Dispute Resolution.
Mr. Shi regularly represents leading insurance companies, shipping and logistics companies, and other corporate clients in domestic and cross-border insurance disputes, maritime and admiralty matters, and significant financial and commercial disputes. His contentious practice covers claims disputes and insurers' subrogation recoveries arising from commercial property, marine, credit and guaranty, and various liability insurance lines, as well as financial and commercial contract disputes.
In the insurance sector, Mr. Shi has acted in a number of complex matters involving aircraft insurance, in-orbit satellite insurance, directors' and officers' (D&O) liability insurance, offshore engineering equipment insurance, and export credit insurance, helping clients effectively manage claims exposure. He has developed extensive practical experience in handling major insurance incidents and cross-border insurance claims.
In the maritime and admiralty sector, Mr. Shi has represented domestic and international shipping companies and trading companies in disputes concerning ship collision liabilities, contracts of carriage of goods, and shipbuilding contracts. Some of the cases he handled have been selected by Chinese courts as representative cases.
On the non-contentious side, Mr. Shi advises clients on insurance product development, insurance funds investment, insurance regulatory and compliance matters, as well as insurance-related sanctions compliance, InsurTech, healthcare, and the handling of enterprise work-safety incidents, providing legal and risk management advice.
Mr. Shi received his LL.B. in Maritime Law from Shanghai Maritime University and his LL.M. in International Law from Fudan University. He is a Member of the Insurance Committee of the Shanghai Bar Association and was recognized as a 2025 Rising Star in Maritime & Admiralty by Law Vision (律新社).
Prior to joining Chance Bridge, Mr. Shi practiced for several years at a prestigious domestic law firm.

Insurance & Reinsurance
- Represented Chinese insurance companies in responding to aircraft insurance claims filed by aircraft leasing companies. The claims arose from the detention of aircraft due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, involving Hull All Risks and War Risks policies, with a total amount in dispute exceeding USD 800 million.
- Advised a leading insurance company on a complex reinsurance dispute arising from a severe rainstorm incident at a concentrated solar power (CSP) project in Dubai, UAE, with an estimated loss of approximately USD 600 million.
- Represented an investment company in an insurance company share transfer dispute, with the amount in dispute totaling approximately RMB 250 million.
- Represented a listed company in a share purchase dispute involving a life insurance company before the Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC), with a total amount in dispute of RMB 800 million.
- Represented an insurance company in a commercial property insurance claim arising from rainstorm damage to a five-star hotel in Anhui Province, with the amount in dispute totaling approximately RMB 35 million.
- Advised an insurance company in handling a commercial property insurance claim arising from a major fire at a cold storage facility in Baishan, Shanghai, with an amount in dispute of RMB 100 million.
- Advised an insurance company in evaluating and handling an insurance claim filed for an in-orbit satellite due to abnormal battery degradation, involving a claim amount of approximately RMB 80 million.
- Advised an insurance company in a product liability insurance matter regarding an export product quality tort claim before an Arizona state court (USA). This involved cross-border judicial assistance under the Hague Evidence Convention to obtain evidence from a domestic tire manufacturer, marking the first case in Shandong Province where a local court applied the Convention for cross-border evidence collection.
- Advised an insurance company in a product liability insurance matter involving defective domestic automotive components, with an amount in dispute of RMB 25 million.
- Advised an insurance company in handling a Directors and Officers (D&O) liability insurance claim triggered by financial statement fraud of a STAR Market-listed company, with the amount in dispute reaching RMB 100 million.
- Advised an insurance company in handling a construction all risks (CAR) insurance claim caused by rainstorm damage to a wind power project in Shaanxi Province, with a claim amount of RMB 180 million.
- Advised an insurance company in resolving a commercial property insurance dispute arising from severe snow and freezing rain damage to a fishery-solar hybrid photovoltaic power station in Changde, Hunan Province, with the amount in dispute totaling RMB 100 million.
Maritime & Admiralty
- Represented a major domestic insurance company in a marine cargo insurance claim involving wet damage to machinery and equipment exported to Myanmar, with a claim amount of RMB 10 million. This matter was selected as a Typical Case of Foreign-Related Commercial and Maritime Adjudication by the Jiangsu High People’s Court.
- Represented an insurance company in a marine cargo insurance claim arising from a diminished germination rate of barley imported from France, with a claim amount of RMB 20 million.
- Represented a foreign shipowner in a property damage dispute arising from vessels collision between the M/V “IVY XX” and the M/V “Jiang XX”, with the amount in dispute totaling RMB 15 million.
- Advised an insurance company in a cargo transit reinsurance contract dispute arising from ship detention caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with the amount in dispute totaling RMB 10 million.
- Advised an insurance company in handling an oil and gas policy claim triggered by a drilling accident at an offshore oil platform, with a claim amount of approximately RMB 90 million.
- Represented an insurance company in a marine cargo claim and a subsequent general average (GA) adjustment matter involving thermal damage and mold of corn imported from the United States aboard the M/V “Golden XX”, with the amount in dispute reaching RMB 50 million.
- Advised an insurance company in evaluating and handling an insurance claim arising from typhoon damage to an offshore wind turbine installation vessel / platform, involving a claim amount of RMB 55 million.
Corporate Matters
- Provided comprehensive corporate legal services to top-tier insurance companies, including PICC, China Life Insurance;
- Provided s ongoing legal counsel services to China Continent Property & Casualty (CCPC) Insurance focusing on regulatory compliance for credit and guaranty insurance businesses, as well as personal information and data protection.
- Provided ongoing risk assessment and underwriting legal review services for Litigation Property Preservation Liability Insurance (LPPLI) to major insurers, including Ping An, PICC, Tianan P&C, CCPC, and CPIC.
- Provided independent supervisory services for the Debt Investment Schemes launched by prominent insurance asset management companies, including Pacific Asset Management Co., Ltd. and Minsheng Tonghui Asset Management Co., Ltd.
- Advised Li An Life Insurance on regulatory compliance issues regarding the utilization of insurance funds for the establishment of a new senior care subsidiary.
- Provided ongoing legal services for insurance product development and regulatory review to Ping An Insurance.
